Bare Copper Stranded Wire for Electrical Earthing

Saint Ni Lightning Protection Bare Copper Stranded Wire for Electrical Earthing is manufactured from high-purity oxygen-free copper and formed through precision multi-strand concentric twisting. Unlike rigid grounding conductors, its flexible structure allows the conductor to follow different installation paths while maintaining close contact with grounding equipment. The bare copper surface also provides direct metal-to-metal contact for grounding clamps, terminals, copper bars, and other conductive components.

The primary advantage of this construction is its ability to combine electrical performance with mechanical flexibility. Multiple fine copper strands share mechanical stress during bending, installation, soil settlement, and equipment vibration, reducing the risk of localized cracking associated with rigid conductors. The exposed conductor also makes the condition of the grounding connection easier to observe during routine maintenance.

For substations, power distribution equipment, renewable energy facilities, industrial installations, and other projects requiring a flexible copper grounding conductor, Bare Copper Stranded Wire for Electrical Earthing provides a direct and reliable conductive path for grounding and equipotential bonding.

Copper Conductor Construction

High-Purity Copper for Low-Resistance Transmission

Saint Ni Lightning Protection uses high-purity electrolytic copper as the primary conductor material. Copper's naturally low electrical resistivity provides an efficient path for lightning, fault, and short-circuit currents. The conductor can therefore be used where rapid current transfer and consistent electrical connection are important to the grounding system.

Multi-Strand Structure for Flexible Installation

The conductor consists of multiple fine copper wires twisted together rather than using a single rigid copper section. This structure allows the cable to bend around corners, equipment bases, trenches, and irregular installation routes. It is particularly useful when grounding conductors need to be positioned around existing equipment or structures.

Bare Surface for Direct Electrical Contact

Without an insulating outer jacket, the copper surface can directly contact compatible grounding components. This simplifies connection inspection and allows installers to select suitable clamps, terminals, or exothermic welding according to the grounding design.

Connection & Installation

Mechanical Clamp Connection

Grounding clamps can be used when a removable or adjustable connection is preferred. This method is convenient for equipment grounding, temporary connections, and installations where future inspection or adjustment may be required.

Exothermic Welding

For permanent grounding grids, exothermic welding can create a fused connection between the copper conductor and compatible grounding components. When properly completed, the connection forms a continuous conductive joint without relying on mechanical pressure alone.

Routing Around Complex Equipment

The flexible stranded construction makes installation easier around transformers, switchgear, cable trenches, steel structures, equipment foundations, and other areas where a rigid grounding conductor may require additional forming or bending.

Real Engineering Application

110 kV Urban Hub Substation Project

The project was a new 110 kV urban hub substation serving surrounding industrial parks and residential areas. Because of the high short-circuit current within the station, the grounding system required reliable current transmission and a designed service life of 40 years. The shallow soil contained small amounts of saline and alkaline components, while narrow maintenance passages made future large-scale excavation undesirable.

Saint Ni Lightning Protection supplied 70 mm² flexible Bare Copper Stranded Wire for Electrical Earthing for the main ring grounding network, together with vertical grounding conductors made from the same copper material. Connection points between conductors and grounding electrodes were completed using exothermic welding.

After welding, the joints were cleaned and treated with anti-corrosion conductive paste. The grounding trenches were installed at a depth of 0.8 m and backfilled with screened fine soil, with graphite resistance-reducing material added to improve current dispersion.

After commissioning, the grounding resistance remained stable. During nine years of operation, annual inspections found no corrosion holes or broken strands, while the exothermic welded joints remained intact. The grounding system successfully dissipated current during multiple short-circuit and lightning events without equipment burnout or overvoltage-related accidents. Routine inspection was sufficient without large-scale excavation and replacement.

FAQ

Q1: Why choose stranded copper instead of rigid copper?

The multi-strand construction provides greater flexibility and bending resistance, making it easier to route around corners, equipment foundations, and irregular grounding paths.

Q2: Can it be connected directly to grounding rods?

Yes. Compatible copper grounding rods, clamps, terminals, or exothermic welding systems can be selected according to the grounding design.

Q3: Is the bare surface difficult to maintain?

No. The exposed structure makes the conductor and connection points easier to visually inspect. Any oxidation, broken strands, or loose connections can be identified during routine maintenance.

Q4: Can different cross-sectional areas be customized?

Yes. Saint Ni Lightning Protection can supply different conductor sizes and strand configurations according to project requirements and grounding system design.

Q5: Can grounding accessories be supplied together?

Yes. Saint Ni Lightning Protection can provide grounding clamps, copper terminals, exothermic welding materials, conductive paste, grounding rods, and other supporting components for project procurement.
